A $16 Million Condo At New York’s Plaza Hotel Is Designed With ‘Eloise’ Fans In Mind

Even if you’ve never read Eloise, the iconic children’s book by Kay Thompson, the name has become almost synonymous with New York’s iconic five-star Plaza Hotel.

The French Renaissance château-style building was first built in 1907 and deemed a New York City landmark in 1969. While it’s been an operating hotel for over a century, it also has welcomed famous residents like Alfred Vanderbilt and Harry Frank Guggenheim. Located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, The Plaza Hotel is topped with several ultra-luxury condominiums, ranging from studios to eight-bedroom residences.

Currently available is unit 1901, an ultra-luxury condo measuring almost 4,000 square feet. The corner duplex home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms with incredible Central Park views. There are 12-foot-high ceilings, a gas fireplace, commodious living room, bar area, and several places to relax or entertain. There’s a large formal dining room with seating for up to 12, not to mention great views from two French doors that overlook the landscaped courtyard and fountains.

For those who love to be in the kitchen, this is sure to be a gathering spot in the home. It has Nero Marquina marble countertops and state-of-the-art stainless steel Viking and Miele appliances, and is a well-lit space to cook your favorite meals—or have them prepared for you.

As far as the bedrooms go, each is quite spacious with elegant windows and city views. The primary suite, however, occupies a private and quiet wing with generous closet space and a bright, natural-light filled bathroom. One of the main draws—especially for those who are fans—is the Eloise-themed room, based on author Kay Thompson’s children’s book Eloise. The book series, which Thompson wrote in the 1950s, follows a precocious six-year-old girl named Eloise who lives at The Plaza Hotel.

Future buyers can either keep the room as is or customize it how they wish. The room was staged by Jason Saft of Staged to Sell Home, who had a vision to create an Eloise room based on The Plaza’s most famous (fictional) resident. The room features the iconic pink stripes on the cover of the book, playful art, twin beds, and whimsical sculptures. For an additional cost, the furnishings can be purchased as is.

Upstairs, accessed via an architecturally impressive railing emblazoned with The Plaza’s signature “PP” logo, are two additional bedrooms that could be used as a gym, home office, guest suites, art studio, or more.

The benefit of living at The Plaza is like being a full-time hotel guest with access to twice-daily housekeeping, 24-hour in-room dining, butler service, and a concierge. There’s also access to the iconic Palm Court, Champagne Bar, Rose Club, Warren Tricomi Salon, Terrace Room, Grand Ballroom, Guerlain Spa, and fitness center. Also on the premises are beautiful gardens and fountains, which the apartment overlooks, and retail shops. Christopher Franklin and Brian Manning of Brown Harris Stevens hold the listing.

And if you want to test out life at The Plaza yourself the Eloise way, the hotel has a dedicated Eloise suite filled with Eloise books, dolls, and clothing. The package comes with a gift bag and tea for four at The Palm Court.
