United Airlines said in its third-quarter earnings it expects adjusted profit to take a hit in the fourth quarter because of the war between Israel and Hamas. The airline operator said the hit would be larger if flight suspensions to Tel Aviv last longer than the end of October. Shares slide 4.7% to $38.23 after-hours.
J.B. Hunt continued to report weaker demand for freight with third-quarter results, and the shipping company saw a sharp dropoff in prices in its intermodal and truckload segments. The trucker’s revenue sinks 18% as profit falls in the third quarter. Shares drop 3.6% to $189 after-hours.
Viking Therapeutics reported early data from a study of VK2735, a potential obesity treatment, which showed it reduced liver fat content and plasma lipid levels in patients. The company said the drug, which was previously shown to cause reductions in body weight, could be a potential treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Shares rise 13% to $12.10 after-hours.
