U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.32%

© Reuters. U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.32%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 0.32%, while the index lost 1.43%, and the index declined 2.43%.

The best performers of the session on the were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:), which rose 4.30% or 6.79 points to trade at 164.71 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 3.07% or 10.14 points to end at 340.67 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 1.40% or 0.30 points to 21.67 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which fell 5.09% or 1.76 points to trade at 32.83 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) declined 3.51% or 7.16 points to end at 197.06 and Dow Inc (NYSE:) was down 3.41% or 1.68 points to 47.56.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Waste Management Inc (NYSE:) which rose 6.11% to 164.08, The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) which was up 4.30% to settle at 164.71 and Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corp (NYSE:) which gained 4.12% to close at 104.06.

The worst performers were Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:) which was down 9.60% to 126.67 in late trade, Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) which lost 9.51% to settle at 125.61 and MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 9.26% to 214.08 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Abri SPAC I Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 115.68% to 26.96, Nuvve Holding Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 61.27% to settle at 0.24 and Aclarion Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 45.65% to close at 0.47.

The worst performers were reAlpha Tech Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 47.31% to 60.59 in late trade, Forbion European Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:) which lost 34.01% to settle at 12.01 and Sonnet Biotherapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 28.73% to 1.29 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2205 to 726 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2426 fell and 1040 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged.

Shares in Abri SPAC I Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 115.68% or 14.46 to 26.96. Shares in reAlpha Tech Corp (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 47.31% or 54.41 to 60.59. Shares in Sonnet Biotherapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 28.73% or 0.52 to 1.29.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.43% to 20.19.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 4.75 to $1,990.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.80% or 1.51 to hit $85.25 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.19% or 1.93 to trade at $90.00 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.14% to 150.12.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 106.35.
