U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.83%

© Reuters. U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.83%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 0.83%, while the index fell 1.22%, and the index lost 1.56%.

The best performers of the session on the were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which rose 1.30% or 1.10 points to trade at 85.58 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:) added 1.25% or 2.02 points to end at 163.80 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) was up 0.63% or 3.03 points to 486.63 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.57% or 8.48 points to trade at 321.15 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) declined 2.50% or 8.48 points to end at 330.22 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:) was down 2.31% or 6.59 points to 278.17.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Southwest Airlines Company (NYSE:) which rose 2.56% to 29.68, Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:) which was up 2.17% to settle at 104.48 and Host Hotels & Resorts Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 2.09% to close at 16.60.

The worst performers were Nucor Corp (NYSE:) which was down 6.13% to 155.38 in late trade, KLA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.35% to settle at 454.22 and DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 5.12% to 96.35 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were MSP Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 237.52% to 0.19, STRATA Skin Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 61.81% to settle at 1.00 and Aerwins Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 49.92% to close at 0.19.

The worst performers were Avalo Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 38.37% to 0.13 in late trade, Axcella Health Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 38.23% to settle at 0.62 and Athersys Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 30.23% to 0.30 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1949 to 966 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2200 fell and 1277 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.57% to 13.79.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 11.45 to $1,944.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.08% or 0.97 to hit $91.13 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.49 to trade at $94.19 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.27% to 147.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 105.01.
