U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.04%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the rose 0.04%, while the index fell 0.01%, and the index fell 0.25%.

The best performers of the session on the were Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which rose 1.32% or 2.19 points to trade at 167.59 at the close. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:) added 1.20% or 0.64 points to end at 54.07 and Dow Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.08% or 0.54 points to 50.73 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:), which fell 1.60% or 5.03 points to trade at 309.36 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) declined 1.37% or 0.50 points to end at 36.06 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was down 0.91% or 1.44 points to 156.09.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were VF Corporation (NYSE:) which rose 13.99% to 18.45, U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:) which was up 6.90% to settle at 34.87 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 5.40% to close at 70.06.

The worst performers were DXC Technology Co (NYSE:) which was down 6.11% to 20.89 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 6.10% to settle at 86.33 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 4.68% to 439.38 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Scisparc Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 122.97% to 6.31, Nkarta Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 112.16% to settle at 3.14 and Assembly Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 72.18% to close at 1.25.

The worst performers were Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 58.76% to 1.20 in late trade, Volcon Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 36.27% to settle at 1.30 and BIO-Key International Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 34.36% to 0.34 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1809 to 1101 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2074 rose and 1349 declined, while 157 ended unchanged.

Shares in Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.10% or 5.61 to 86.33. Shares in Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 58.76% or 1.71 to 1.20. Shares in Volcon Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 36.27% or 0.74 to 1.30. Shares in BIO-Key International Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 34.36% or 0.18 to 0.34.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.80 to $1,935.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.79% or 0.67 to hit $85.93 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.73 to trade at $90.38 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 149.79.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 106.00.
